Overfishing is a common problem all across the world. Across the pond a young British designer (Dan Watson) is taking on this problem with a bright solution. Fishing nets with LED lights to illuminate where small fish can escape and larger species such as turtles and whales can see and avoid. This is a smart and safe way to fish and help create as sustainable ecosystem. The safety net’s primary goal is to avoid bycatch.
Bycatch can result in overfishing, reduces the population of species that might already be endangered and, on the largest scale, interrupts food chains and damages whole ecosystems.
This is showing that innovation and the use of LED lights can be used above and below water.
